Success in Korea
Bestobell Marine’s increasing success in securing business for its cryogenic globe and check valves and unique FLIV valve was reflected with the award of a major contract from DSME shipyard in Korea. Bestobell secured an order for fives shipsets of valves that will be fitted on the 173K LNGC being constructed for Teekay LNG Partners L.P of Canada, and due for delivery from the first half of 2016 onwards. Teekay LNG Partners L.P. is a publicly-traded master limited partnership formed by Teekay Corporation (TK) as part of its strategy to expand its operations in the LNG and LPG shipping sectors. The new buildings will be constructed with M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) twin engines, which are expected to be significantly more fuel-efficient and have lower emission levels than other engines currently being utilized in LNG shipping. This is the first time any LNGC will be fitted with these type of engines.
The award of the contract to Bestobell Marine is a reflection of an ever increasing close relationship with DSME, to whom Bestobell Marine have supplied valves for nearly fifty LNGC that have been constructed at the yard. Bestobell’s unique FLIV valve has been especially popular with the yard, being used to isolate the cargo tanks from the secondary float measurement system. Its ease of installation and small footprint has made it the valve of choice for DSME.
Bestobell Marine is planning to expand over the next 12 months in response to the ever increasing demand for its valves from DSME and other Korean yards. With the expected expansion of the Japanese newbuild market for LNGC, the upcoming years for Bestobell Marine are going to be very busy!
