Bestobell Marine, Fully Approved!

8 October 2015 | Read

Bestobell Marine has obtained full type approval from the big four class societies for its range of globe and check cryogenic valves. DNV-GL. Lloyds Register, Bureau Veritas and American Bureau of Shipping have all approved Bestobell’s valves for use in cryogenic applications on ships which includes valves used in cargo systems on LNG carriers and bunker vessels, LNG fuel gas systems, LNG regasification systems and LNG reliquifaction systems.

Bestobell Marine has had to obtain full type approvals for its range of cryogenic globe and check valves due to the requirements from the IACS class societies changing at the beginning of 2014. The new rules required Bestobell to have Type Approval for its products or else be subjected to excessive testing requirements of its valves for every order they produced. This would have resulted in excessive testing costs having to be passed on to clients. With Type Approval Bestobell could continue to cryogenically test 10% of each type of valve in an order, and witnessed by a class surveyor. Bestobell marine 100% ambient test all their cryogenic globe and check valves to identify any leakage problems with its valves..

Bestobell Marine secures order for second Yamal vessel

8 October 2015 | Read

Bestobell Marine, a world leading supplier of cryogenic globe and check valves for ships has secured an order for its cryogenic globe and check valves for the second LNG carrier in the Yamal series of vessels being built at DSME shipyard in South Korea. Bestobell Marine also supplied its valves to the first vessel that will be owned and operated by Russian owner, Sovcomflot. This vessel will be owned and operated by Japanese shipowner, MOL and will be used as a “test” vessel to see how the ship and on board equipment perform in Siberian winter sea conditions. There will be a total of fifteen ships built in this series for three different owners: MOL, Teekay (Canada)and Dynagas (Greece), and is currently the largest single series of LNG carriers on order.

Bestobell Marine’s cryogenic globe and check valves will be used in the cargo handling system on the vessel including the main discharge line throttling valves that control the initial flow of LNG from the cargo tanks when pumping first starts. The on deck valves will be subjected to extreme sub-zero temperatures and the valves are designed to operate in ambient temperatures as low as -54 Deg Cent. As these are cryogenic valv...

High Pressure Fuel Gas Valves for DSME & SHI

8 October 2015 | Read

Bestobell Marine, a world leading supplier of cryogenic globe and check valves for ships has secured orders for its new range of high pressure globe and check valves that will be used on pump and vapouriser skids used in high pressure fuel gas systems for MAN ME-GI engines. Bestobell Marine will supply valves for pump and vapouriser skids for six LNG carriers being built at DSME shipyard and two LNG carriers being built at SHI shipyard, and to be fitted with the MAN ME-GI engine. The order represent a significant upturn in demand for high pressure cryogenic valves for this application, as Sales Director Duncan Gaskin explains.” With the introduction of the MAN ME-GI engine two years ago and with now over one hundred sold it is driving a rapid increase in demand for high pressure cryogenic valves needed for fuel gas systems. Bestobell Marine is playing a major role in meeting the challenge created by this demand with its new range of high pressure valves, and these orders have really put Bestobell Marine at the forefront of this new sector.”

The Bestobell Marine HP cryogenic globe valves will be fitted in the pipework downstream of the high pressure pumps and will play a vita...

Bestobell Marine secures second Gotland vessel

8 October 2015 | Read

Bestobell Marine has secured an order for globe and check valves that will be used in the fuel gas system on the second Gotland ferry that has been ordered at Guangzhou International shipyard in China. Bestobell Marine also secured the order for the first vessel. The ferries are to be built for Swedish owner Rederi AB Gotland and when delivered, will sail between the Swedish mainland and the island of Gotland. By operating on LNG, the ferry will make significant reductions in its emissions of NOx, SOx, CO2 and particulates, allowing the vessel to comply with the latest IMO Tier III regulations. Bestobell is committed to promoting the use of LNG as a fuel because of its “clean burn” properties that can help reduce the amount of harmful emissions and carbon dioxide a ships engine produces.

Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director for Bestobell Marine states” China is where we are focusing a lot of effort with our local partner Healthlead Ltd, to ensure we are seen as the number one supplier for marine grade cryogenic globe valves, both for LNGC cargo valves and LNG fuel system valves.

Another Fuel Gas System first for Bestobell Marine

8 October 2015 | Read

Bestobell Marine, a world leading supplier of cryogenic globe and check valves for ships has received its first order to supply fuel gas valves for new build tankers. The vessels in question are two 15,000-dwt ice-class 1A asphalt and bitumen tankers , which have been ordered by Groupe Desgagnés of Canada and will be built at Besiktas shipyard in Turkey. The ships will be equipped with dual-fuel engines allowing them to operate on LNG and fuel oil, and will have 600 cbm gas storage tanks on the decks.. The vessels will then serve the Great Lakes and Canada’s St. Lawrence River.

Because of the low winter temperatures in Canada the valves have to be specified to operate in -40 Deg cent. This not a problem for Bestobell’s cryogenic valves that are designed to operate to temperatures as low -196 Deg cent. However the actuators use to provide remote operation, have had to have special “winterization” components fitted to ensure they still operate without any issue. Bestobell already has experience of supplying cryogenic valves for extreme winter conditions and are supplying cargo handling valves for the Yamal series of LNG carriers being at DSME shipyard in South Korea. The valves...
